Homelovers love Homesense; the ultimate decor destination for autumnal inspiration…
With the autumn now in full swing, we’re getting incredibly cosy, spending more and more time at home, and not feeling one bit guilty about it. How could we when there are so many beautiful homewares to be enjoyed at this time of the year? If you’ve been resisting the arrival of AW18, all you need to do is browse the unique offerings at your nearest Homsense store and you’ll find yourself on our page almost instantly.
For us at GAFF, there’s nothing quite like a trip to Homesense to get a sense (see what we did there?) of what’s in and what’s out for the season ahead. Trends aren’t just followed here, they’re forged here too and we’re only too happy to follow suit. This season, the dominant trend that we’re embracing is the idea of maximalism and boy did we enjoy our haul. Move over minimalism. Move over barely there Scandinavian interiors. Move over neutral colour palettes and make way for a more interesting aesthetic.

At Homesense, it’s all about the details and the extras. Go big or go home is the phrase that springs to mind when shopping here and it’s about bloody time too. For so long we’ve been paring things back, it’s nice to indulge in our love for homewares. So what can you expect and how should you proceed with the ‘more is more’ idea?
Gatsby Lighting
Lighting is one of the first ports of call and one of the easiest ways to change up your decor without too much fuss. For so long lighting has blended into the background and kept very quiet. Not any more. In Homesense you will find table lamps that put the personality back into your home, creating points of interest and enhancing the sense of individuality we all crave. If you’ve had it up to here (well, you can’t quite see how high we’re demonstrating) with 3-legged lamps with magnolia barrel shades, you’ve come to the right place. Think clashing patterns, indulgent textures and materials. Style wise, expect lots of Gatsby-inspired pieces.

Artsy art
When it comes to wall art, again, we’re a bit jaded with the super minimal quoted prints. Instead we’re seeing a return to the kind of art you’d point to and say ‘aha, that is actual art.’ That said, we don’t have the kind of money to be spending on an original painting, so it’s to Homesense we go for some incredibly effective, budget friendly alternatives. This is another way to add a bit more of the ‘more’ to your home without having to plaster the walls in patterned paper. Stick with your muted walls but adorn them with pieces that make things appear richer.

Opulent velvet
Furniture wise, go as opulent as you like. Why should we wait until we’re millionaires to sit on a throne of velvet with brass legs? Why should we always go the practical route? Our recent trip to Homesense reminded us that we only live once and with affordable prices, we can’t think of one good reason not to own a pale pink velvet storage bench (which, we might add, is still very practical). We’re also thanking them for reminding us that your home is YOURS and not someone else’s, so choose what makes your heart sing.

Fabric wise, velvet is still very much top of the list but if you’re looking for one stand out pattern, you’ll find monochrome check and chic dogtooth in abundance. We love it.

Gilded Halloween
Also, there IS a way to celebrate the holiday that dominates autumn without ghouls and witches hanging from the rafters. Say hello to the sophisticated pumpkin.

All in all, if we’re to follow the lead of Homesense this season, we’re braving more colour – particularly burnt orange – more vibrancy, more texture and more fun. We’re finding something that catches our eye and instead of checking to make sure other people approve, we’re getting it because we love it.
