Neon wall – or table – lamps are still a major decor trend. For a while, however, they were very hard to come by and pretty expensive too. Now, a bespoke neon sign – such as having your own choice of words or shape made especially for you – will still set you back quite a bit, but lots of high street stores are finally offering their own take on the neon trend. Here’s a round-up of what we’ve found, complete with links so you can buy them right away.
WARNING: Don’t be tempted by the ‘make your own neon sign’ offerings – we made the mistake of buying two, thinking we’d whip ourselves up a bespoke sign in minutes; it’s a nightmare and nearly impossible to do. Absolutely not worth it at €20 a pop in Urban Outfitters.
As for how to style them in your home? Less is more. You can very easily get sick of neon so it’s important you keep it subtle. For example one hint of neon on the wall behind your drinks cabinet, or one striking neon wall light in the hallway – or in a bedroom. You’ll have to be mindful that with wall lights there will be wiring – which is always miraculously hidden when you see gorgeous pics on Pinterest – so if you fall in love with a wall-fixture, consider getting wire-covering to fix over the wiring and paint over it in the same colour as your wall. When it comes to table lamps, that’s not an issue.
Cult Furniture is one of the best in terms of choice. They’ve just added a whole new range of neon wall lights, so let’s start there.
‘Good Vibes’ will work well in most spaces – it’s not too specific. This one’s €73.75 and it also comes in a pink neon too.
If you go for ‘cocktails’ just remember that it will really only work in the kitchen or above your drinks trolley – so make sure it’s something you want to stick with for a while. €61.25
Urban Outfitters online is another reliable resource for all things neon. They specialise more so in table lamps so these work perfectly for a quirky nightlight. We love this rainbow one for a little bit of colour against an otherwise muted palette. €40.
If you can’t keep an actual succulent alive, you might find this easier. A neon green cactus lamp is always a good idea. Style it in a corner with floor plants too if you can. The mixture of natural and artificial green will make for a cool effect. €85.
I Want One Of Those – IWOOT – have this cool hello sign in neon which would work nicely near your dining table or breakfast bar (if you have one of those). €57.99
They also do a ‘cocktails’ option that’s a little bit cheaper than Cult at €69.95
And who doesn’t like flamingos? €31.35 – this is a steal.
For something different, this lightening neon wall light comes with a dimmer switch, but that costs a little more at €75. (lampandlight.ie)
Hot pink neon lips? You can’t go wrong. This is the most affordable option we’ve found – for lips, that is – priced at €62.49 on Firebox.
Lastly, a calming cloud. Not all neon lights need to shout your head off. See? *Tranquility* €62.49 also from Firebox.
Still want your own custom-made light? You’ll have to go above €100 for that.
If you decide to go the custom route, this Etsy shop will make you something that looks like this for €233.14 plus shipping. This is the most affordable option we’ve found in terms of bespoke lighting.
