In the world of interiors – as is the same with fashion – we’re always thinking one season ahead. And when it comes to homewares, autumn is always the most exciting time of the year. Maybe it’s the antidote to the fact that the summer is winding down, but we think it has a lot to do with the cosiness, rich style and incredible standard of Penney’s autumn trends.
Though we’re not ones to wish our lives away, we can’t help but get excited about the forthcoming collections from our favourite high street store. This week we’re honing in on the Maximal trend (from which, you’ll want just about everything). When you’ve gotten the most out of your bright and bold summer colours, it’s time to come right back down to earth with gorgeous neutrals and softer rosy tones. The Maximal trend is the foundation story for AW this year, emphasising the importance of neutrals in your home colour palette. The tones here are super soothing; ideal for cosying up as the nights draw in. Expect natural materials such as wood, terracotta, leather and stone – all of which will lend itself to any pre-existing decor in your home. If you’ve got colourful accents, this won’t clash. Colour wise, you can expect lots of grey (grey is not going anywhere as a staple household hue), cream and biscuit. What we’re particularly excited about at GAFF is the addition of autumnal terracotta tones for the next homeware season which add depth to an otherwise pared back palette. These warm, rust hues enhance the rustic element of this trend and if you’re a pink lover, they work surprisingly well with this hue too. But it’s not all block colours here; there’s detail too with leather accents and subtle geometric patterns in throws and cushions.
To offset the neutral tones that dominate this trend, our number one styling recommendation is always the inclusion of lots of natural greenery (or artificial works too). It still keeps things earthy and natural but the pop of green lifts the palette and completes the look. From cushions to candles to battery-powered lights, it’s incredibly easy – and affordable – to switch up your decor with each new season, ensuring you feel refreshed, reenergised and ready for what’s ahead. If this is what’s to come of autumn, we’re game.
