Ask The Expert: Emma At Lamb Design Talks Autumn Decor

With Autumn around the corner, we’re itching to know what interior trends we should be latching on to, so we sat down with one of our favourite interior’s know-it-alls Emma Lynch. The co-founder of Lamb Design talks Autumn home trends, how they curate their products, the story behind Little Lamb and what the future holds for Lamb Design with team GAFF.

Lamb Design

Lamb Design was founded by Emma Lynch and Christina Kenny and it happens to be a GAFF fave.

We adore the uniqueness of your products. How would you define Lamb Design’s style?

”My personal style is very simple, elegant and pared back. Lamb Design follows that aesthetic. Our collection is a carefully curated selection of beautiful, unique and simple pieces. We don’t like throw-away interiors but prefer to source beautiful pieces that our customers will treasure forever. I believe it’s much nicer to spend time and money on selecting beautiful pieces for your home, that will stand the test of time and be handed down to future generations.

What sets Lamb Design aside from other Irish online interiors retailers?

”Our collection is a bit different to what is out there at the moment. Simple and elegant, but we also have some quirky pieces that add a bit of fun and uniqueness to the store. All the pieces have been carefully selected based on the motto that if I wouldn’t have it in my own home, then it doesn’t make it to the collection. Every piece is hand picked for its quality, craftsmanship and design.”

As an online interior store, tell us about how you curate your store and where you find inspiration.

”We find a lot of inspiration in travel, nature, interior magazines, Pinterest and Instagram. Besides that, we travel to interior design trade shows in Europe and the United States to source new suppliers and to keep on top of what’s going on in the interiors world.”

Tell us the story behind Little Lamb

”I love kids decor and when I designed my own house in Brittas Bay – the kids’ rooms were the ones that I got most excited about and planned first! But I found it impossible to source any of the brands that I loved and ended up having to stock pieces from Australia and the United States. So, I wanted to inspire others with the brands that I loved and make them accessible in Ireland.”

“I can see a big shift in Ireland when it comes to kids bedrooms and playrooms. More thought and care is being put into the look of spaces for little ones.”

”I can see a big shift in Ireland when it comes to kids bedrooms and playrooms. More thought and care is being put into the look of spaces for little ones – that’s great to see! Little Lamb is a huge part of our business and it continues to grow as we add new fun and unique products to the collection. We are passionate about Little Lamb and will develop it further so that it becomes ‘the’ place to shop when designing your kids rooms.”

What home decor trends do you expect for Autumn 2017?

Muted colors. Bold colors have had their day. The year ahead will be all about neutrals – whites, beige, pale grays, camel and blush pink. Geometric patterns. The goal for your home should always be to create that curated feeling. An easy way to accomplish this is through inventive patterns. That will be super on-trend this year. Quirky lighting. Lighting will finally get the spotlight it deserves and more emphasis will be put on making the right lighting choices. As an accessory for your home, quirky lighting is the perfect way to show off your unique design sensibility. Artisan-Crafted furniture. There will be an emphasis on uniquely crafted pieces of furniture, that are more of an investment and very well-made. Green and tropical prints. Already a trend, but I don’t see it going anywhere! I love a touch of this trend in an interiors space. But instead of going over board and get tired of it quickly – just add a tropical print cushion to your couch or green velvet chairs to your dining table. Too much of something never works long-term.”

Where do you envision Lamb Design in 5 years?

”We will continue to grow our presence in Ireland and hopefully establish a market internationally. Also, we want to diversify the business into other areas and develop our own custom furniture and lighting collection. We are passionate about thoughtful design and craftsmanship, and we are working towards introducing new and exciting brands to our collection. In the coming months, we will open a beautiful, unique studio space in Dublin. It will be a space where we can meet our clients face to face, in a relaxing and inspiring environment, where our clients can admire, touch and fall in love with the Lamb Design collection.”
