You might still be scraping the ice off your car in the morning, but at Homesense – one of our absolute favourite high street interiors brands (and part of the TK Maxx family) – Spring has definitely sprung. On Saturday, Jo and I took a spin out to their Blanchardstown store to get a sense (see what we did there?) of their take on spring trends and begin our own springtime haul. In short, they’ve nailed it.
Florals
While Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada might have thought there was nothing novel about florals for spring, in the world of interiors, they’re making a major comeback. For quite some time now, we’ve been working with pale muted colour palettes and if there was a pattern at all, it was more likely to be a vintage Gatsby-inspired print. 2018 welcomes the return of delicate and sophisticated florals, as opposed to the vibrant tropical leaf prints that would have dominated two years ago, and Homesense is the perfect place to whet your floral appetite. One of our favourite and most cost-effective ways to embrace a trend is to treat yourself to a new bedspread. A hint of floral in the bedroom is ideal.
Subtle Prints
But it doesn’t end there; there are so many inspiring prints that we’re loving, from this graphic patio furniture set (we know, we’re early, but springtime is when you will nab the best bargains in garden stuff) to these colourful chair cushions (see gallery for both). Our love affair with Homesense is not only wrapped up in the quality and the value of their homewares, but the shopping experience itself; it’s all about the thrill of the find here and knowing that not everyone will have the same as you. It makes for a far more interesting and more personal home. We love this peacock print in particular…
Faux Foliage
Elsewhere, if you’re looking for more subtle ways to add a little spring to your home, you can’t go wrong with Homesense’ incredible faux flower and foliage offering. Look, we would love to have the patience and the wallet to keep up with fresh flowers on a weekly basis, but it’s just not practical. Faux flowers – when they’re as high quality as what you’ll find in Homesense – are the way to go. Straight-up greenery was big last year, but with spring on our doorstep, we’re embracing more colourful flowers in our vases. These are especially brilliant if you’ve got a dark spot in your room where natural light can’t get to.
Pastels
In general, we’re so happy to see an abundance of colour across their homeware offering. This season you’re invited to have fun with colour and there’s no need to worry about matching everything to perfection; when you step inside Homesense you will be inspired by the eclectic mix of one-off finds – it’s a blueprint you can easily apply to your own living space. Last season’s colour palette was moody and dark – navy, teal, with pops of chartreuse – but if we’re to follow suit with Homesense, softer pastel shades are big. Add a calming pastel cushion to your bed or consider a fresh set of hand towels in the bathroom in a gentle lilac hue.
Millennial Mauve
One of our favourite colour trends this year is what’s being referred to as ‘millennial mauve’ and this is exactly the kind of pastel we’re talking about. It’s not a bright, in-your-face purple, but a contemporary and more wearable take on Pantone’s Ultraviolet colour of the year. And remember, embracing colour doesn’t have to mean you’re painting your walls a shocking pink – it’s all about the little soft furnishings here and there that help to reinvigorate your home for a brand new season without the hefty price tag.
Head to Homesense and you’ll be guaranteed a spring in your step, irresistible prices and big brand names! Browse our gallery of the bits and bobs we picked up.
