It’s hard keeping up with the changing trends when it comes to tiles. One minute you’re subway tile with anthracite grouting obsessed, the next minute you’re falling in love with ceramic hexagonal Moroccan style tiles. There’s as much choice in the world of tiling as there seems to be in the world of fashion, however, tiles are not something you want to change all too often, and so you need to make choices that you will be happy with for at least a few years. Sometimes you’ll want to go all in on a trend – risking the likelihood of being fed up of it once the interiors world moves on – while other times you’ll want to go for something a little left of field, or more unusual, that you just love regardless of whether it’s on trend or not. Then there are those of us who like to play it safe and that is fine and pretty sensible too. Wherever you fall on the tile trend spectrum, below we have compiled some of our favourite tiles to have piqued our interest in recent months. Tiles that might work in a downstairs loo that needs some jazzing up, tiles that could provide a striking backsplash in your kitchen – even tiles that could make for a statement on the vertical bit of the steps on your staircase. There are lots of ways to use tiles in the home and hopefully this will give you some inspiration.
Top Tip: Tiling specialists such as Halo Tiles work with lots of different suppliers, so if you don’t see what you want on their website, but you’ve found a tile you’ve been longing for, reach out to them and see if it’s something they can order in for you. They are always open to responding to what people want so don’t be afraid to ask the question or even send on a Pinterest tile pic you’ve been trying to source. They might source it for you!
- This Spanish ceramic tile is to DIE for and paired with the brass details, there’s really very little else you’d need to make this an Insta-worthy bathroom. They’re elegant, pared back and effortlessly chic.
2. Thinking of a tiled area in your back garden? Okay, the pool might be a stretch, but a tiled patio area might just take you to the Mediterranean without actually having to get on a flight.
3. Pink tiles are still very much having a moment. Our advice would be to avoid going floor to ceiling with pink, in case you tire of it. Tile the floor alone or choose a small area behind the sink where you can have a little fun with this pop of colour.
4. If you’re looking for something a little different to the metro/subway tile shape, a relatively new take on it is to go for less of a rectangle shape. These square tiles give a similar effect with a slightly different impact on the eye.
5. For those who aren’t so pattern enthused, we are seeing a definite return to the larger form tiles with colour palettes you’re likely to find in a luxury spa. Super minimalist, warm, inviting and a seamlessness from floor too walls. This style of tile is a worthy consideration when you want to avoid anything fussy and perhaps you want the bathroom accessories to stand out for themselves, such as a free-standing bath.
