How To: Nail The Tribal Trend With Colour, Berber Baskets And More

If you’re into the neon trend but you don’t want to turn your GAFF into a 1980s cocktail bar, take a sharp left at Tribal; the two work together like pizza and beer. The tribal interiors trend is gaining ground and it’s one that’s going to stick around (our crystal ball says so). Specifically, the tribal trend sees a focus on handmade African baskets either to store your laundry or spare cushions and throws (in the living room), kids toys and even as a relaxed container for your variety of indoor plants. Some of the coolest ones feature a chevron or geometric pattern with a bright colour or, alternatively, a soft pastel. To fully embrace the Tribal trend, consider rugs, cushions with pom-poms, throws, woven wall hangings, authentic Moroccan leather pouffes and more. Think Morocco, think Boho, think colour, think… snake charmers. You’ll eventually get the idea.

Our advice? Don’t go nuts at first. These pieces tend to make quite the statement so you don’t need a lot of competing colours and patterns demanding attention in the one space. Build up slowly if you’re going to work towards a colour explosion.

We’ve been trawling the internet for gorgeous takes on the tribal trend and here, we offer you the best bits and inspiration aplenty. The baskets come in all shapes and sizes from hampers to toiletry containers – you can even dip your toe in the trend with a tribal basket fruit bowl.

If you go the genuine handmade route, it’s going to cost you. Thankfully, there are some high streets starting to catch on to the trend. H&M do some gorgeous bits that lend itself to this tribal aesthetic – albeit a more muted palette – while IKEA’s offering is, of course, a Scandi-bohemian alternative.
