Okay, so now that the dust has settled on the New Year and you’ve come to terms with the fact that you’ll probably be throwing in the towel on most of your ‘healthy’ resolutions come this weekend when a bottle of bubbly that you forgot about over Christmas emerges, GAFF have a list of stuff that will help you with at least one of your resolutions – getting your shit together. Yes, it seems like a painful and daunting task at first but with our help, it’ll be a lot easier; trust us. We’ve got the best of the best of things you need for your home office to help get your life in tack. Even if you don’t have the space for a home office but you need the right stuff to do all of that list-making at the kitchen table, we’ve got you covered. So grab and pen and paper, scroll down and get organised.
Sitting down at the kitchen table or on the sofa is not ideal when it comes to motivating yourself to work at home. An office space in your house doesn’t have to be big. A small space can hold a desk, a chair and a few decorative pieces and voila! You’ve got yourself a home office that you are happy to be in. Take a look around, see if there’s any little corner or space that you could fit a desk in. Once you have that space you can make it your own little office which is somewhat separate to the rest of the house or apartment, a place you can really put your head down and do what you got to do. Start with something simple, like buying yourself a nice notebook and pen to get you motivated.
The Desk
There’s nothing more de-motivating than a crappy looking desk. A laptop and a few pens? Nah! Get that desk looking great and you will be more likely to sit down and do the work you need to. Create a space that you feel happy and comfortable in. Decorate with lighting, plants, photo frames and a few nice desk ornaments and you’ll soon have a lovely looking spot to work from. Treat yourself to a nice chair as well, not one of those boring ugly office ones but a quirky and colourful one that you would be happy to park your bum on for a few hours. You’ll be a home office Queen before you know it.
The Accessories
No home office desk is complete without some accessories. Make it personal and add a touch of fun to your little office with some eclectic and stylish pieces.
The Surroundings
When you look up from your laptop or notebook what do you see? Something inspiring that will keep you motivated? No? Well then it’s time to do something about that wall. Painting the wall a different colour or adding wallpaper can make a huge difference to your little home office space. Adding motivational prints reminds you of the goals you have set yourself and keep you going, while memo boards are ideal for keeping reminders and inspirational images and mood boards on making the space very personal. Add some soft furnishings to your office to create a warm and welcoming environment. A rug makes a lovely definition of the space that you have, and adding something like a pouf will add an extra touch of comfort.
