How high-tech should your GAFF be? While most of us use an iPhone and probably watch our favourite Netflix series on a Smart TV, when it comes to the more sophisticated home gadgets we have to admit we are a little in the dark.
So, when Connectify, an Irish company who offer the latest home tech essentials, offered us a tutorial in some of their best-loved products, we jumped at the chance.
First up, Philips Hue Lighting. This smart bulb looks a little slicker than your ordinary Edison, but screws right into a lighting fixture like any lightbulb would. It comes with a special plug, which acts as a central control, and both the plug and bulb communicate via a simple App that you download to your phone. Once all of these steps have been taken, it’s as simple as choosing from literally thousands of colours, settings, and lighting moods.
We love this gadget, as it allows you to change the mood in any room at the touch of a button. At GAFF, we always talk about the power of using lighting to change up your interiors, and these Hue Lighting bulbs do just that.
In the evening choose “relax” mode or “reading” mode. In the morning, go for a “sunrise” setting – there’s even seasonal settings like “Haloween’ and “Christmas” if you want to get really creative. You even install them outdoors too, for the perfect garden lighting. Investing in a selection of these lightbulbs will help bring a whole new level of convenience and connectedness to your home. It couldn’t be easier.
Next up is the Google Home Hub. This small but mighty piece of tech offers ultimate control of your connected home. You can voice control all your compatible devices from one single dashboard, from your Hue Lighting to heating, to appliances. However, if you’re like us and just dipping your toes into home tech, the Home Hub is the perfect first tool to help you find your techy-feet.
Setting it up couldn’t be easier, you simply plug it in, download the Google Home app to your phone and it will direct you through each step. As it’s voice-activated you’ll need to say a few key sentences to allow it to calibrate to your voice, but after a couple of minutes, it’s up and running.
We have been testing and trialing it and for now, even with our limited home tech, it’s a super piece of equipment. Keep it in the kitchen and use it for recipes, watch Netflix, listen to your favourite playlists on Spotify, read out your daily calendar, and reminders – you name it. And as you build on your home tech you can integrate it with the Google Home Hub.
We have a long way to go in connected our homes fully, but with these two gadgets we’re off to a solid start. We were impressed with how easy to use and install these pieces were, and Connectify offer a full service from purchase to installation to make sure you have no issues setting up.
In fact, we love it so much that we want to give you the chance to win one! We asked the team at Connectify to help you connect your home with your very own Google Home Hub. You can be in with the chance of winning your very own Google Home Hub. Simply head to our Instagram to find out more!
