Welcome back to GAFF #shelfies! We are excited to bring you this Instagram series, as we explore some of the coolest nooks and crannies of cool homes in Ireland. Each week, we’ll be taking a snoop at a special shelf or space in a super stylish GAFF, examining the owner’s favourite accessories, asking about their home inspo, and taking styling and decor tips as we go. This series is designed to help YOU get excited about your own home space. It doesn’t matter if you have a single shelf or an entire room to get creative with – we want to help you kick start your own interior inspiration.
This week, we’re stepping inside the botanically brilliant HQ of one of Dublin’s premier skincare destinations – Floraison, founded by Dawn Hill. Floraison, tucked away off Exchequer Street, has become to go-to for prescriptive, innovative facials in Dublin and – spoiler alert – team GAFF is obsessed, not only with her incredible skincare results, but also how special her space is. Dawn has managed to create a place that feels like a luxe getaway as opposed to a stuffy clinic and we adore it. So, we had to ask – where is she finding the pieces that make Floraison so blooming beautiful?
Tell us about this corner of Floraison, and why you chose to share it with us.
“This is my favourite little corner of my facial studio because its where I begin the Floraison experience. I catch up with my existing clients here and get to know my new clients and their skin. I wanted to make this space comfortable, fresh, and a little different. Nothing too clinical, something more inviting. I had in my head for months an idea of what I wanted this consultation area to look like and plants, gold, and wood featured heavily in that vision. The studio brings the outside in, a beautiful mismatch of furnishings that just work together in harmony. The desk holds my computer, a clock, dried flowers from Appasionata, a gold lamp from the Considered collection in Dunnes Stores, a customised notepad my friend bought me when I first opened and some of my favourite beauty bits that I use throughout the day.
Can you tell us about 3 of your favourite items in this space? Where you got them from, why you love them?
“There are a few pieces that I fell in love with at first sight when shopping for the studio. It felt like they were made for Floraison and were just sitting there waiting for me! The very first items I bought for the space were green velvet chairs. I saw these in Homesense and I practically built my consultation area around them. They’re a very luxe addition with their gold legs and velvet upholstery, yet they’re comfy and welcoming. They’re still the most complimented items in Floriason.”
“I searched a while to find a delicate desk that would fit comfortably in the space and almost blend into its surroundings. I eventually found it in IKEA. But it definitely doesn’t have the typical IKEA look to it. It’s so simple but I love how the workspace is wood and the legs are white metal. The drawer knobs were wood but I switched them up for delicate gold ones to tie in with the theme I was going for.”
“The forest green velvet clock on the desk was another ‘made for Floraison’ item. I bought this in Pieces, just around the corner from the studio on Georges Street. They have some stunning bits in there.”
How would you describe your interior style? Is it the same at work and at home or do you approach them differently?
“Home and studio absolutely mesh. I love natural, earthy vibes but with an intense, luxurious twist. I’m definitely not into ‘matchy-matchy’ when it comes to interiors and prefer a mixture of styles and finishes. I’m not one to follow trends either and prefer to pick up bits and pieces as I go that bring me joy. It’s rare that I have an exact idea of how I want a room to look. I fall in love with pieces first and then the room evolves around them.”
Where are some of your favourite places to shop for interiors?
“Homesense is just incredible. You can find some of the most beautiful pieces there and I could easily spend a full day in there, digging around. Meadows & Byrne is always a go-to and The Garden House in Malahide is a favourite too. Online I love Zara Home and Woo Design. You’re also guaranteed to pick up an amazing find in Dunnes Stores!”
What was the last thing you bought for your Floraison?
“A rattan cabinet from the Garden House in Malahide. I saw this just before lockdown and knew exactly where it would go in the studio…. but I didn’t buy it. Then lockdown happened and I spent a ridiculous amount of time thinking about it!! When they reopened, I was one of the first in line. When I walked in the door, there it was, staring right at me. I nearly hugged it. It’s just the most gorgeous piece.”
Where do you find your home inspo?
“I get a lot from Instagram and follow some beautiful accounts like Dan Eire Designs, Geri Designs, Wioletta and of course, Gaff! I also get inspiration by just walking around interior shops and of course, Pinterest.”
